“Once I started doing hair I knew I was blessed with a gift. Everything came so easily. Besides, Mama said I should do hair.”

Five years later, Elgin opened his Beverly Hills Salon where he caters to women of color. The salon is located one block east of Rodeo Dr. at 9435 S. Santa Monica Blvd, he has attracted stylist to meet the needs of his diverse clientele.

Elgin Charles’ decision to own a salon came to fruition after attending St. Mary’s University (studying biology and chemistry), being an operations manager at Smith Barney, a municipal bonds corp. and various business classes. Although the world of finance was intriguing, it was a process, not a career. He knew in his heart he wanted to be a hair stylist, and that his finance background could eventually help him achieve his dream.
